Becoming an Interdisciplinary Doctoral Researcher

After six years in industry I decided to return to the world of academia, to research the way game elements are implemented in things that aren’t games, and what impact game elements can have on human behaviour and physiology. Working with audio visual sensory experiences in various industries showed me some of the ways that more structure and frameworks would be helpful when it comes to designing user experiences. Ultimately, through my research I hope to help businesses create engaging, accessible user experiences using technology as a tool for storytelling.

I’m now a doctoral researcher at Aston University, part of the Simulation, Interaction, and Gamification Models and Architecture (SIGMA) Research Group at the Sir Peter Rigby Digital Futures Institute. It’s very early days and I have a lot to learn, but I’m starting to speak at conferences and publish papers and connect with the academic community. I’m very grateful for my supervisory team and post doctoral researchers who so generously share their knowledge and wisdom. And I’m especially looking forward to strengthening my existing industry relationships and building new ones. If you’re here and want to connect, please reach out!
